Charco del Paulo | |
Small beach not yet explored |
|
Los Cocoteros | |
Nudist Area not yet explored |
Reported good for divers |
Charco Harbour | |
Good sandy access at high tide but poor at less than half tide.
North side well sheltered from waves but still slightly cloudy in the shallows.
Southside not explored |
All kinds of bream, bluefin Damsel, Grey Mullet, Sharpnosed Puffer and
sand smelt. Mystery fish not in the reference has barbels beneath jaw
to dig in the sand. |
Las Cucharas Bay North | |
Harbour wall North is easy snorkelling from the beach at most states of the tide.
The
South side of the wall by the Salinas Hotel can be explored comfortably
down a sandy pathway among the rocks. This area is often clear
when the middle is cloudy or sea weedy.
Centre Wall. Be careful here when the windsurfers are active. Water usually too cloudy but good on a calm day in the Winter. |
Infested with blenny with interesting marbled heads which do not appear in the reference books. Was this a Brown Meagre or just a Parrot Fish?
All types of bream, including the zebra bream, sharpnosed puffer, blue fin damsel, wrasse and grey mullet. Also some interesting pink crabs. What was that?
Most types of bream, grey mullet, sand smelt.
|
Las Cucharas Bay South | |
Off the main beach the trip along the rocks at low tide is surprisingly sandy and shallow after the first corner.

Larger grey mullet, most kinds of bream, sharpnosed puffer and wrasse.
|
Jablillo Lagoon | |
Probably the best location in Costa Teguise. Even though there are
many bathers, swimmers and children the trip round the lagoon has
variety all the way. It is comfortable even in rough weather at less
than half tide. In the middle the children feed bread to the fish
causing an exciting frenzy of large cow bream. |
Along the sea edge there are most kinds of bream, grey mullet and Bluefin Damsel. On the shore side there are wrasse, bream and
sharp nosed puffer. At a later visit I saw sea slug, pampano, blenny and this interesting thin fish about 15 cms long which I cannot yet identify. |
Playa Bastian | |
|
|
Ancla Beach | |
At high tide this little beachprovides easy access to a rocky area.
The northern side has clear water and pleasant sheltered snorkelling.
What was this little fish about 8 cms long hiding in the rocks? Is this rock goby catching a fish with its tongue?
To the South of the beach the water is more cloudy and the fish are less numerous but larger in size. |
All kinds of bream including Zebra Bream, pampano, sharp nosed puffer, rock pool blenny, grey mullet, rock goby and ornate wrasse male and female.
Fewer small species but saw these quite large Parrot Fish.
